Post-Graduate Department of English organised a welcome party ‘Jashn-e-Aagaaz’ for the new students of the department. Hosted by the seniors, the party began on a traditional note with the lighting of the lamp by the Principal, Dr. B.B Sharma, Dr. Sanjeev Sharma (Principal, D.A.V College, Bhatinda), Prof. Salil Uppal (Head, P.G Department of English), Prof. Naresh Kumar (President, English Seminar) and other members of the staff.
The event was filled with excitement, enthusiasm, laughter and happiness. Savleen from M.A-II welcomed the juniors with a beautiful poem. The event was marked by some power-packed performances by the students. Kawaldeep Kaur from M.A I danced to the tunes of popular Punjabi songs. Madhavi (B.A-I) enacted a scene from the play Dr. Faustus. Prinyanka recited a lovely poem ‘Kill them with Love’ by Boona Mohammed.
Heena, Kawal and Nancy captivated the audience with their beautiful rendition of folk songs. Kaja and Shivantika Nagar brightened up the place with their melodious voice. Sukhmani and Preet Kumar gave a mesmerising performance with the guitar.
The best performance of the day was the wonderful choreographic sequence presented by the students of M.A I. They showed, on stage, a glimpse of student life in different hues and shades.
The highlight of the day was the Mr. and Ms. Fresher contest in which the freshers set the stage on fire in their glamorous avatars. "Sahil Shourie" and "Sukhman Kaur" were adjudged Mr. and Ms. Fresher respectively. Navinder Kaur was declared Ms. Charming.
The Principal, Dr. B.B Sharma, while addressing the students, recalled his student days and praised his teacher who opened up an imaginative and fanciful window for him to see the world. He inspired the students to emulate such teachers. Head of the department, Prof. Salil Uppal motivated the students with his ever-inspiring words.
Navinder Kaur from M.A I thanked the seniors for such a warm welcome. Prof. Naresh Kumar gave the vote of thanks. The event concluded with an electrifying Bhangra performance by the students of M.A I.
