In recent years, great concern has been expressed about lack of infrastructure facilities for imparting good quality higher education and conducting advanced research. While the departments in universities and other higher educational institutions had made some impact on the development of teaching and research through their own efforts, a stage had reached where they needed selective strengthening of their infrastructure for post-graduate education and research in emerging areas.

A proposal was submitted to Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi under DST-FIST Scheme by Post Graduate Department of Chemistry of DAV College, Jalandhar. The proposal was short-listed by the expert committee constituted by DST and on behalf of Chemistry Department Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma made a presentation to expert committee at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad on 25 August 2007. The Department is recommended for Financial Assistance to purchase Equipments (FTIR and UV-Visible Spectrophotometer), Setting up Departmental Computer Lab, Departmental Library and Renovation of Teaching Labs under this scheme. Under this scheme total Rs. 41Lacs and 90 Thousand grant is sanctioned and Rs. 26Lacs and 30 thousand are released as First Installment under this scheme from DST. First Installment is utilized for purchase of FTIR and UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, New Edition Books and for renovation of Post Graduation laboratories.
