DAV College Jalandhar organised the 60th Athletics and Sports meet on February 21, 2009. The event was inaugurated by S. Pargat Singh, Director Sports Punjab. He was received by Principal Dr. V K Tewari, Vice-Principals Prof. Satish Tandon, Prof. R. K. Parashar, Secretary of Athletics Council, Prof. Manu Sood and other staff members.

The meet started with recitation of Ved Mantras. The Chief Guest and others released the ceremonial colourful balloons. S. Pargat Singh formally announced the opening of 60th Athletics & Sports meet.

Principal Dr. V K Tewari while formally welcomed the Chief Guest said that S. Pargat Singh is a pride of India. He contribute significantly to the Indian sports specially to Hockey. The presence of Parget Singh in the Sports Meet will definite encourage the young players. Dr. Tewari highlighted the achievements of the college in sports. He said that recently college won the Sail Nehru Hockey Tournment for the 10th times, which is a record in itself. He admitted that DAV College is bounded to fulfil its responsibilities to the nation in the field of Education and Sports.

Chief Guest S. Pargat Singh, Director Sports Punjab congratulated the Principal and Staff for organising the Athletic meet. He said that the contribution of DAV College Jalandhar in the field of Education and sports is great importance. This institution has provided facilities to the player at best of its ability. He announced to give the goal-post, Residential Wing to the deserving players and a Gym to the College for the promotion of Sports. He stressed upon the good health of citizens. Without good health no one can achieve his targets. He said that everyone should get some time in his daily routine for the health. He also said that there is no limit of success. One should regularly work hard to achieve the desired target.

Different Sports and Athletic events: on this occasion different sports and athletic events were organised, in which both boys and girls, teaching and Non-teaching staff of the college participated. The important events were :

Girls :50 mts (Staff Race), Long Jump, Chatti Race, Apple Race, Obstacle Race, 100 mts (Girls), Musical Chair Race (Ladies & Guest)

Boys: 100 mts, 400 mts, 800 mts, Long Jump, Obstacle Race, Three Legged Race, Pillow Fighting, 100 mts (Teaching Staff), Tug of War, Karamchari Race, 100 mts (Admn. / Lab Staff Race)

Prize Distribution: S. Gurcharan Singh Channni, Chairman, District Planning Board, Jalandhar, president, Distt. Akali Dal, Jalandhar was chief guest and Sh. Avinash Kapoor, Industrialist, Sh. Raj Kapoor, Industrialist & S. Harman Singh from Canada were the Guest of Honour for this function. They were received by Principal Dr. V K Tewari, Vice-Principals Prof. Satish Tandon, Prof. R. K. Parashar, and Secretary of Athletics Council, Prof. Manu Sood, Chairman Local Managing Committee, Seth Kundan Lal Aggarwal and other staff members.

The Chief Guest S. Gurcharan Singh Channni, Chairman, District Planning Board, Jalandhar, president, Distt. Akali Dal, Jalandhar who is alumni of this college and also a social worker while highlighting the importance of sports said that sports are helpful in the development of different aspects of one’s personality. He also remembered his days in the college as student.

On this occasion, more than 200 students, who achieved distinction at the international, national, state and university level were awarded. On this occasion, the students of CCA department presented cultural programmes. The Sports meet closed with the National Anthem. The stage was conducted by Prof. Sharad Manocha, Dr. Hemant Sharma, Prof. Kanwar Rajiv.
