Zoology Department
Biology department of the College was opened in 1935 with Prof G.L Chopra as head of the department. The department ran F.Sc (Medical) Classes upto 1942. Then it was raised to a graduate department. This was the second college in east Punjab to which the Punjab University, Lahore Granted affiliation for the B.Sc classes in the subject of Zoology with the introduction of three year degree course in B.Sc zoology and premedical classes were started. Post graduate course in zoology was introduced in 2003 under the headship of Prof. P.D.Singhal . The admission was based upon an entrance test for which 290 forms were received from many states and only 30 students were admitted on merit and qualifying entrance test. In the next year i.e. 2004, total number of seats for M.Sc were raised to 35 as allocated by the university.

Special set up for emerging sciences:

Biotechnology professional course was introduced under emerging sciences in 2005. The admission was done on merit basic for 40 seats. A new course under the UGC scheme was also introduced i.e. “Certificate course in Biotechnology” to be up graded to diploma course in 2007-08 and degree course in 2008- 09. A new elective subject of bioinformatics was also started under UGC scheme for B.Sc I students.

The Zoology department has been showing excellent results and its students been winning top positions and largest number of first classes and scholarships in the University examinational .
