UGC Sponsored Seminar on Radiation and Environmental Physics
A UGC sponsored two-day national seminar on “Recent Advances in Radiation and Environmental Physics” was organized by the Department of Physics on 15th and 16th November 2006.

Dr. V.B. Acharya, Vice Principal and Head, Department of Physics, and Dr. Satish Sharma, Principal of the college welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr.Vijay Mahajan, MD, Tagore Hospital, Jalandhar.
Inaugurating the Seminar, Dr.Vijay Mahajan, emphasized the importance on such seminars in which resource persons from various institutions exchange their expertise and gain from one another’s expertise.
Remembering his student days in this college, he pointed out about the pains taken by teachers in guiding the students. He further pointed out that the habit of hard-work and sincerity inculcated in me in this college have been inseminated in his career as a physician. He announced a donation of Rs.10 Lakhs for a block to be built in the college in memory of Prof. Bansi Lal, a great mathematician and a former teacher of this college.
In the first session, Dr. L.M. Bhardwaj elaborated on nanotechnology and described its importance in the coming years.
In the afternoon session, Dr. B.R. Mittal, Head, Department of Nuclear Medicine, PGI Chandigarh described in simple terms the usefulness of radiations as diagnostic tools for various diseases and their treatment.
In the last session, Dr. Bhajan Singh, Department of Physics, Punjabi University Patiala, delivered in to the importance of Gamma rays in our life.

Cultural Programme:
In the evening, the participants of seminar were charmed by the cultural items presented by the M.Sc. Students. This programme was presided over by Mrs. Vani Vij wife of Mr. Sheetal Vij, a local industrialist and a social worker. 
 
16th  November 2006
Second day of the National Seminar held by the Deptt. of Physics DAV College, Jalandhar started with the talk by Dr. Ashok Pundir from Punjab University, Chandigarh on accelerators and their applications. He described the need and type of accelerators along with their applications in various fields.
The second session started with a talk on Bose-Einstein condensation by Dr. Rajinder Moudgil, from Deptt. of Physics, Kurukshetra University. He highlighted the role of Dr. S. N. Bose in his concept.
In the third session after lunch, Dr. Harsh Mohan from PG Deptt. of Physics, M L N College, Yamunanagar, presented the emerging field of particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) technique and its application.
Sh. S.K. Gupta, eminent alumni of this college, presently settled in Singapore graced the occasion. He was the chief guest for the valedictory function. He gave message to the students to pray God for good health and motivation o serve others. All the three sessions were highly appreciated by the students and faculty of various institutes.
Dr. Satish Sharma, Principal of the College congratulated Dr. V.B. Acharya, convener, Dr.A.J.Bahl, Co-Convener, Dr. Y.P. Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the Seminar for holding this event successfully.
